High School Equivalency
Coastal Alabama's Adult Education Program offers various services, certifications, and classes at no cost to our students.
High School Equivalency
Students wanting to earn their High School Equivalency Diploma can choose from two paths available: General Educational Diploma (GED) or High School Diploma Option (HSDO).
HSE Enrollment Process:
- Complete the Adult Education Registration Form below. A team member will call you to verify your eligibility and determine which HSE program you qualify for, either GED or HSDO. The team member will then sign you up for an orientation session. More information on each program is below.
- Prepare your enrollment documents. See below for what documents you will need to bring with you for orientation depending upon if you will be a GED or HSDO student:
- All Students:
- Proof of Alabama residency or employment.
- Photo identification (or other form of ID for students who do not have a photo ID).
- GED Students under the age of 18:
- 16 - Proof of withdrawal from educational coursework AND Parent Permission Form
- 17 - Proof of withdrawal from educational coursework OR Parent Permission Form
- HSDO Students:
- You will need to take a Transcript Audit Form to the last school you attended (must be an Alabama public high school). The school will complete this form and either email or mail it back to the Adult Education program directly. *You do NOT have to have the completed form to attend your orientation session, the high school will send it to us.
- All Students:
- Attend an orientation session. Orientation sessions are mandatory and you must complete a session prior to being enrolled in any Adult Ed class. Sessions are held in-person multiple times throughout the year on each campus and each session will generally last from 6-12 hours across multiple days.
*If you do not have access to a printer to print your forms, please stop by any of our campuses and we will be happy to provide you with the documents you will need.
General Education Diploma Program (GED)
The Coastal Alabama General Education Diploma (GED) program allows individuals to study and take the GED Ready Practice Tests and Real GED Tests in all four subject areas.
These areas include:
- Reasoning through Language Arts

Classes are available in-person or hybrid on all Adult Education campuses.
*Students who complete their GED through Coastal Alabama’s Adult Education Program qualify for a scholarship for ONE FREE CLASS at Coastal Alabama Community College.

Individuals who took the Alabama High School Graduation Exam (AHGSE) and did not pass one or more parts qualify for the HSO program.
