How to Apply
The following information details the admission requirements for the Surgical Technology Program:
- Student must be unconditionally admitted to Coastal Alabama Community College.
Application to the college must be updated if the student did not attend Coastal Alabama Community College the semester prior to application deadline. Official transcripts of all college work attempted at any institution other than Coastal Alabama Community College and high school transcript must be sent by the institution’s Registrar directly to Coastal Alabama Community College’s Registrar. - The application for admission to the Surgical Technology Program, must be received in the Allied Health Department by July 15.
- Student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 Scale.
- Student must meet ONE of the following requirements:
- Completion of Anatomy and Physiology I (BIO 201) AND Anatomy and Physiology II (BIO 202)
- Completion of Anatomy and Physiology I (BIO 201) AND Microbiology (BIO 220)
- Completion of Anatomy and Physiology II (BIO 202) AND Microbiology (BIO 220)
- Note: All courses in the program must be completed with at least a grade of ‘C’, prior to the beginning of Surgical Technology Program course work.
- Upon admittance to the program, student must be eligible for enrollment in the following courses (provided they have not already completed said courses):
- MTH 100 (Intermediate College Algebra) or Higher-Level Math
- BIO 220 Microbiology
- Humanities Elective
(Note: ENG 101 is a pre-requisite course)
- Student must be in good standing with the college.
- Student must meet the essential functions and technical standards required for the Surgical Technology Program, as listed in this packet.
- Student must take a pre-assessment surgical technology skills exam
- Any student who is accepted in the program while in process of taking any of the required prerequisite courses, will be accepted on a “Conditional” status. If the student fails to pass with a “C” or higher, any of the prerequisite courses that were in the process of being taken when accepted to the program, will have the acceptance rescinded and the student will no longer be eligible to enter the program for that year.
