Coastal Alabama Community College Scholarship Applications are Due March 1!
The scholarship deadline for new and returning Coastal Alabama Community College students is rapidly approaching, with hundreds of scholarships worth more than $2 million available. Applications must be submitted by March 1 for the 2021-2022 school year, and the application process has been streamlined to accommodate as many applicants as possible.
The range of scholarship types can be found at www.coastalalabama.edu/scholarships2021 Usually, more than 1,000 applications are received for Coastal Alabama Community College!
As many as 30 percent fewer high school seniors are expected to apply for financial aid nationwide, according to Dr. James Theeuwes, director of Coastal Alabama Community College’s Financial Aid Department. And many of those who don’t apply each year fail to do so because they’re afraid they don’t qualify, without knowing the specific requirements, he said.
“We have many, many students here in our area that qualify for federal aid and they just don't apply,” Theeuwes said. “If you do apply, there's the opportunity to receive a grant from the federal government, and if you do our application, you perhaps have an opportunity to get a scholarship!”
The state department of education specifically streamlined the application process so that process is as straightforward as possible, regardless of scholarship type. However, scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis and are not guaranteed based on minimum requirements in each category. The 2021-2022 scholarship application is for scholarships that will begin in Fall 2021.
In addition to scholarship funds, other forms of financial aid available to new and returning students are: Federal Pell Grant; Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG); Federal Work Study Program; Federal Direct Stafford and Federal Direct PLUS loans; and the Alabama Student Assistance Programs.
To apply for both federal and local financial aid programs, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at studentaid.gov/.
