The African-American family was at the center of a presentation on the Bay Minette Campus of Coastal Alabama Community College on February 17 as part of the college’s Black History Month celebration. Hosted by former director of TRIO Student Support Services Dr. Carl Cunningham Jr., the presentation featured Cunningham’s father, Carl Cunningham Sr., a longtime educator and community leader.
Together, the father-son duo told students and faculty about the challenges and successes their family members experienced through more than 100 years of living in the Mobile community of Oakleigh.
The program concluded with a musical performance by pianist Leslie Simmons, who is the chairperson of the division of Fine Arts, and vocalist Franklin Edward, who currently serves as a Success Coach at the college.
